Sara Baras A Antonio Canales M Marta Carrasco What Iberia Is About
Carlos Saura brings the suite Isaac Albeniz called Iberia onto a stage and in front of a camera. The story of the film comes out of the music itself and out of the people who play it: musicians, dancers and the people inside the rehearsal. Classical ballet, contemporary dance, Spanish dance and flamenco come side by side on the same stage; the pieces are both rebuilt and turned into something else. What is given is not a plot but a series of parts following one another. The documentary shows flamenco not as a show for tourists but as a craft that is worked at and argued over. Sara Baras and Antonio Canales are on stage in the hundred and twenty minute Spanish production, completed in 2005.
