What Internes Can't Take Money Is About
The young Dr Kildare treats Janet, the widow of a bank robber who cannot find her baby, and falls for her. She in turn helps him stitch up a wounded gangster in the back room of a tavern. When Kildare asks the gangster to help find the child, the man’s solution is, predictably, violence. The film’s place in history sits here: this is the first appearance of Dr Kildare on screen, played by Joel McCrea. MGM later took the series over and gave the part to Lew Ayres. It is adapted from a magazine story by Max Brand, with Barbara Stanwyck as Janet.
