What Mauvais Sang Is About
In a near future a virus kills those who make love without loving, and a young thief signs on to a job stealing the antidote. Leos Carax barely explains the science fiction premise, because his subject is not the disease but the physical condition of unreciprocated love. The most remembered passage is Denis Lavant running down a street for the length of a song, which contributes nothing to the plot and lasts for exactly that reason. The colour is deliberately artificial, red and blue functioning almost as characters. It moves by rhythm and gesture rather than story.
