Kiracı

Kerim is a civil servant renting a flat with his wife and child. The landlord wants more rent, Kerim says he cannot pay it, and the decision to move is made. But finding somewhere affordable in Istanbul is a job in itself: every flat he sees is too expensive, or not fit to live in, or already gone. In the end Sühandan, a colleague at the office, finds him one. Kerim works at it, takes the place, moves the furniture, settles in. Not long afterwards the new landlord knocks on the door and asks for more rent. Orhan Aksoy directs the Turkish film; eighty-seven minutes, with Kemal Sunal as Kerim and Özlem Onursal and Füsun Demirel in the cast. It turns rent and housing at the end of the eighties into comedy; like most of the films Sunal made in that period, it is built on an everyday hardship.
