Alois Novak, a minor clerk in a travel agency, leads a life with nothing in it; the same evening at home, the same desk at work. Inside him, though, an appetite for adventure has never gone out, and once a month he lets it loose. On that day he goes to the exclusive Orient Bar as Kristian, a wealthy and mysterious gentleman who is generous with tips and talks to beautiful women about love and the splendour of distant countries. Every place he describes he has in fact read about in his own agency’s brochures. Rather than closing the trick off with a moral, the film chooses to watch how long the lie can hold. Oldrich Novy and Natasa Gollova appear in Martin Fric’s eighty seven minute Czech film, completed in 1939.
