Ladies of the Courtyard

Pipis is a poor painter. He lives in a courtyard in old Athens. A number of families live around that courtyard. Everyone knows how everyone else is doing. Pipis falls behind on his rent. He moves into a smaller room in the same courtyard. Nobody pushes him out; on the contrary they look after him. His neighbours like him because he is good humoured. There is movement in the courtyard all day. Quarrels, jokes, gossip and helping hands. The women stand at the centre of that order. Pipis paints what he sees. The everyday state of ordinary people goes onto the canvas. The film was adapted from a stage play. Dinos Iliopoulos and Alekos Alexandrakis appear in the hundred minute film, a Greek production Dinos Dimopoulos finished in 1966.
