Letty Lynton

Letty Lynton is a socialite. She leaves her lover Emile Renaul behind in South America and sails for New York. On board she meets Jerry Darrow and something starts between them. Her old lover is waiting for her in New York. He has no intention of leaving her alone. Letty poisons him. Detectives take her to the district attorney’s office. Jerry cooks up an alibi for her. The film was made before the Hays rules tightened. That is why it can tell the story so bluntly. The dress Joan Crawford wears here became an event of its own and set off a fashion craze. The real trouble came to the film afterwards. A plagiarism case was lost and it was pulled from circulation late in the thirties. It could not be shown for nearly ninety years and reappeared once the copyright block lifted. Joan Crawford and Robert Montgomery appear in the eighty four minute film, an American production Clarence Brown finished in 1932.
