What Miranda Is About

A married doctor on holiday finds that the thing on the end of his line by the shore is a mermaid. Miranda, as she is called, asks for one thing in exchange for letting him go: to see London. The doctor takes her to the city disguised as an invalid and installs her in his house. Things get complicated from there for his wife and for every man around him. Ken Annakin's English comedy takes the idea entirely unseriously and plays it purely as a game. Miranda turns the head of every man near her and none of them can say no; the real humour comes from the women noticing. Glynis Johns made the part so much her own that a sequel followed a few years later. Margaret Rutherford is in support.
