Joshiy's 2005 Malayalam film follows Velayudhan, a man loved in his village. Raised an orphan, he keeps the place free of bad business and so becomes the target of the local moneylender and politician. What distinguishes it is the fight sequences. The lead trained in a traditional Kerala martial art and the fights rest on that technique; the choreography is detailed by the standards of Malayalam action cinema of the period. Mohanlal leads and the role follows the typical hero template of that stage of his career. The narrative is built on the collective support of the villagers; the conflict is resolved at the level of the community rather than the individual. The melodramatic elements are pronounced. Who it's for: those who like Malayalam action drama and Mohanlal's films. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a measured narrative; the film often exalts its hero and steers the emotion openly.
