New Orleans

The owner of a gambling hall moves from New Orleans to Chicago and entertains his customers with jazz. On the stand are Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday and Woody Herman. The film makes jazz coming out of the clubs and reaching a wide audience the ground of its story. Who listens to the music, and where they listen to it, stands inside the account. Class difference and racial division are felt throughout in the background. The musical numbers are the strongest passages; the plot largely moves along between them. In this film shot in 1947 the best known jazz musicians of the period appear. Arturo de Córdova and Dorothy Patrick are also in the cast. Arthur Lubin’s ninety minute American film was completed in 1947.
