What Not So Friendly Neighborhood Affair Is About
Bascarsija, the old quarter of Sarajevo, is trying to get back on its feet after a hard year of the pandemic. In May 2021 a visitor arrives from Zagreb looking for the best cevapi in the city. That harmless search sets two cevapi makers against each other, and as the quarrel grows the business and the private life of both men start coming apart. Their children, moreover, are in love with each other, and the stubbornness of the two fathers pulls the whole city in. Danis Tanovic builds the comedy on the real exhaustion of a city after the pandemic; the masks, the shuttered shops and the empty streets are not the joke but the ground it stands on. Branko Djuric and Izudin Bajrovic appear in the ninety minute Bosnian film, completed in 2021.
