Paradise

Prasanna Vithanage's 2024 film follows an Indian couple arriving in Sri Lanka during its economic crisis. Kesan and Amritha travel to the hill country to mark five years of marriage. A theft at the hotel escalates. The local police are under pressure to produce a culprit quickly; the narrative is about tourists' demands meeting the poverty of the area, and the distance between the couple emerges under that pressure. Roshan Mathew and Darshana Rajendran lead. The film runs in Malayalam and Sinhala together. The close is hard. Who it's for: viewers of South Asian cinema and drama built on moral dilemma. Who it's not for: viewers for whom violence and wrongful accusation would be difficult.
