What Rio Conchos Is About
The Civil War is over, but not for everyone. Two Army officers, a drunk ex-Confederate who hates Apaches, and a cheerfully amoral Mexican ride south of the border to stop a cache of stolen rifles from reaching an Apache band. The man selling them is a former Confederate colonel who has decided the war can simply continue. Gordon Douglas adapts Clair Huffaker's novel into a western that keeps four men who despise each other tied to the same wagon. Richard Boone carries the rot, and the film gave Jim Brown, then still a Cleveland Browns running back, his first screen role.
