What Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye Is About
Ralph Cotter breaks out of a prison farm and leaves blood behind him. The convict who goes with him dies in the escape. The first thing Cotter does outside is get hold of the dead man's sister. Then he is back in business fast. Against him are the crooked police who run the city's underworld, and he finds a way to take hold of them too. There is also the whimsical daughter of a wealthy tycoon, who takes an interest in him. Gordon Douglas directs, with James Cagney as Cotter. It was Cagney returning late to gangster parts. It is film noir with an unusual feature: here there is no moral difference between the police and the criminal.
