The Falcon in Hollywood

The amateur detective Tom Lawrence arrives in Hollywood for a rest. Before long he finds himself involved in the murder of a film actor. There is no shortage of suspects: the costume designer the dead man was married to, a tyrannical director, a young French actress, a producer who quotes Shakespeare, and a gangster from New York. A wisecracking cab driver helps Lawrence along. Two bumbling policemen are constantly underfoot. The film solves its murder inside the world of the studios. Cinema making fun of itself is the real joke. It is one of the short crime pictures of American cinema in 1944. Tom Conway and Barbara Hale appear in Gordon Douglas’s sixty seven minute American film, completed in 1944.
