What Sand Land Is About
In a distant future war has destroyed the earth, leaving only a barren desert where the supply of water is controlled by a greedy king. The film tells the journey of a group trying to change that order. The account was adapted from a comic and runs adventure and humour together. Control of water forms the political core of the story, and who can reach what is asked throughout. The cooperation between a devil and a human is what breaks the mould in it. Its visual construction shows the desert as wide and empty. Toshihisa Yokoshima’s hundred and five minute Japanese animated film was completed in 2023.
