Simhadri

An Indian action film. Simhadri works in a large house. He is quiet, obliging and respectful to everyone; the household treat him as part of the family. He gets on well with Indu, the daughter of the house. But something does not fit. The man avoids a fight, and when he has to he becomes someone else entirely, and nobody knows where it comes from. An incident gives the end of the thread and the narrative turns back. In the past there is another state and another life. Simhadri was known there; he protected a district and made a promise to a family. What that promise was opens in the second half. Back in the present his old enemies find him. The structure follows the known pattern of Indian popular cinema: a past told in flashback, long fights, songs and an oath. The fights are fast and exaggerated; the narrative does it without any claim to realism. N. T. Rama Rao Jr. plays Simhadri and the part counts as a turning point in his career. Bhumika Chawla and Ankitha are in the cast. S. S. Rajamouli directed; it is his second film. It was a large box office success in Telugu cinema. A satisfying choice for anyone who likes Indian action cinema. For a viewer expecting a measured narrative, the film keeps the emotional and physical dose deliberately high.
