Bāhubali: The Epic

Bāhubali: The Epic (2025) combines two films into one cut. It runs 224 minutes, which is three hours and forty four minutes. Plan accordingly. S. S. Rajamouli released the two parts in 2015 and 2017 and they changed the scale of Indian cinema. Anyone who came to him through RRR should know this is where that style was built. The story is set in an invented kingdom: a baby is rescued from a waterfall, raised by villagers, and grows up to learn who he is. The advantage of the combined cut is that the first film's famous cliffhanger is answered without a two year wait. The disadvantage is that watching it in one sitting is genuinely demanding. The action does not care about physics and never pretends to. Rajamouli is not chasing realism, he is chasing myth. The scale is real though: enormous sets and vast battle sequences done with crowds rather than pixels alone. Good for: epic fantasy, maximalist action, and viewers who liked RRR. Less good for: heavy battle violence throughout, and the treatment of the female characters is genuinely debatable. Anyone wanting tight plotting or grounded history should look elsewhere.
