Bāhubali 2: The Conclusion

The question left hanging at the end of the first film is this: why did the loyal warrior Kattappa kill the beloved Prince Amarendra Baahubali. The second film answers it. Kattappa is deceived into the act by a trap laid by Bhallaladeva and his father. Twenty-five years later Amarendra's son comes to settle accounts with the tyrant who took the throne. S. S. Rajamouli directed. Prabhas plays both father and son, with Rana Daggubati as the villain and Anushka Shetty and Ramya Krishna in the cast. Production began in December 2015 at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. The budget was 250 crore rupees. Its opening scale was unprecedented in Indian cinema: it went out on more than 9,000 screens worldwide, the widest release an Indian film had ever had. It sold roughly 10 crore tickets and took an estimated 1,810.60 crore rupees, becoming the first Indian film to pass 1,000 crore. It also opened the way for pan-Indian filmmaking, with films now dubbed across languages rather than remade in each. Figures including Rajinikanth and Chiranjeevi called Rajamouli's achievement one that changed the scale of Indian cinema. Who it is for: viewers who like action at epic scale, court intrigue and excess for its own sake. Who it is not for: anyone attached to physics or proportion. The film makes no claim to realism and restates that in every scene.
