What Sometimes Is About
In the waiting room of a testing centre, people who do not know each other are waiting for the results of their HIV tests. Unable to bear the wait, they bribe a member of staff to find out early, and they learn one thing: one of the results is positive. Nobody knows whose. Priyadarshan's Tamil film stays almost entirely in that single room, and its subject is not the illness but the stigma around it, the speed with which everyone first clears themselves and then points at someone else. One by one, the people waiting tell their own stories. It played festivals in 2016 and later reached a wide audience through Netflix.
