What The Fish Tale Is About

There is a child obsessed with fish from the beginning: drawing them, studying them, interested in nothing else, while everyone around assumes it is a phase that will pass. Shuichi Okita's 2022 film comes from the autobiography of Sakana-kun, the ichthyologist and television presenter well known in Japan. Its most striking decision is in the casting: Meebo, the male protagonist, is played by the actress Non, and the film offers this as neither a joke nor a disguise. That is also where its real subject appears, which is what happens to a person who never settles down in a society that expects everyone to settle down by a certain age and take a suitable job.
