What The Mating Game Is About
Lorenzo Charlton, a tax collector, goes out to a farm in Maryland, because the head of the Larkin family has never in his life filed a return. He plans to stay a day to work out what the farm earns, but the Larkins live by barter without using money, and the sums will not come out. On top of that Mariette, the daughter of the house, takes an interest in him, and the collector’s one day visit stretches on. Meanwhile a neighbour’s scheme to get hold of the farm comes to light. George Marshall’s ninety six minute American film was adapted from H. E. Bates’s novel; Debbie Reynolds and Tony Randall appear.
