Towa no Quon 1: The Ephemeral Petals

The story follows a boy named Quon and the friends who are like him. They are called Attractors: people in whom a power has woken and who now have supernatural abilities. That makes them the target of a secret organisation, and they are being hunted. Quon is determined to save every one of them. This first part, forty-eight minutes long, sets up the characters and the world and opens a series of six films. The director Umanosuke Iida died of lung cancer in November 2010 while the production was under way; Takeshi Mori took over and is credited as co-director. Every part of the series closes with a dedication to Iida. The animation, continuing the hand-drawn tradition of the Bones studio, carries a softness that answers the dark tone of the story.
