Turning Table

On a winter night an artist who has spent long years making animated films is visited in his studio by the characters he created himself. In the company of a small clown they begin to watch together a selection of short films chosen from his own work. In this way the film becomes both a compilation and a new account that frames that compilation; the artist speaks directly with his own past. The characters turning to address their maker is the game the film dwells on most. The short films chosen are not lined up one after another; scenes from the studio come in between them, so that what we watch turns out to be less a screening than a conversation. The eighty minute French work by Paul Grimault and Jacques Demy was completed in 1988.
