When Day Breaks

Misha Brankov is a retired music teacher. He lives in Belgrade. Digging is going on at the old fairground of the city. During the war that ground was a camp. Jews and Roma were held there. A metal box comes out of the excavation. It was buried in 1941 by a prisoner, Isaac Weiss. There are papers inside. The papers touch Brankov’s own past. His real parents were the Weiss family. They left him with friends before they were taken to the camp. In the box there is also an unfinished piece of music, called When Day Breaks. Brankov decides to complete it and then to have it played on the site of the former camp. The film moves from one personal story to what a city has left unremembered. Filip David wrote the screenplay with Goran Paskaljević. Mustafa Nadarević and Predrag Ejdus appear in the ninety minute film, a Serbian, French and Croatian production finished in 2012.
