What Will Our Heroes Be Able to Find Their Friend Who Has Mysteriously Disappeared in Africa? Is About
A rich businessman sick of his work, his family and his own life takes his accountant to Africa, ostensibly to look for a missing brother-in-law and actually to run away. They find the man: he is the head of a tribe and has no intention of coming back. Ettore Scola's film is really about the boredom of the Italian middle class with itself, and uses Africa as an exit from that boredom. The way the local people are treated as landscape is the view of 1968 and is plainly a problem now. Alberto Sordi and Nino Manfredi lead. The title is one of Italian cinema's longest.
