What Woman They Almost Lynched Is About
A town on the Missouri and Arkansas border that has chosen to stay neutral during the Civil War. A woman mayor runs it, and the town is ready to hang anyone who stirs it up, Union or Confederate. Sally, who has come looking for her brother, finds herself inside that tension, and facing her is Kate, wife of the Confederate raider Quantrill. Allan Dwan's film was dismissed at the time as a light Republic western and has since become a cult item, largely because the cast and the central conflict are carried by women. Audrey Totter plays Kate and Joan Leslie plays Sally.
