What Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm Is About
When Rebecca is mistakenly turned down at an audition for a radio advertising campaign, her stepfather takes her out of the city and leaves her at Sunnybrook Farm with her Aunt Miranda, who forbids her from having anything to do with show people. The neighbour, Tony Kent, happens to be the advertising man looking for her: he has heard the voice but never seen the face. Allan Dwan's film takes little more than the title from Kate Douglas Wiggin's 1903 novel; the story is moved to 1938 and almost entirely rewritten. It is a studio picture with songs, from the peak of Shirley Temple's box office years. Randolph Scott, Jack Haley and Gloria Stuart are in it.
