What A Date with Judy Is About
With the high school dance coming up, two close friends, Judy and Carol, both try to catch the attention of the same older man. Carol works at patching Judy up with her own bumbling brother Oogie, while Judy suspects her father of an affair with a beautiful dance instructor. The two girls join forces to expose him, when all he is doing is taking innocent dance lessons. Richard Thorpe’s MGM production was adapted from the radio series of the same name; a light, hurried family comedy built on misunderstandings. The songs Jane Powell sings are its backbone, with turns from Carmen Miranda and Xavier Cugat. Elizabeth Taylor plays Carol and Wallace Beery the father. Shot in Technicolor, it opened on 29 July 1948 and did well at the box office.
