What Night Must Fall Is About
Mrs Bramson, a rich and cantankerous widow, has everyone in her country house waiting on her from her wheelchair. She notices her maid is distracted, learns the reason is the girl's fiancé Danny, and has him brought in. Danny is cheerful and charming, wins the old woman over in no time, and moves into the house. Bramson's niece Olivia is both taken with him and suspicious of him: a local woman has disappeared, and Olivia notices that Danny never lets go of his hatbox. Richard Thorpe directs, adapting Emlyn Williams's play, with Robert Montgomery as Danny, Rosalind Russell as Olivia and May Whitty as Mrs Bramson.
