Double Wedding

Charlie is a painter living in a trailer and observing no rules. Margit is a fashion designer who runs her younger sister's life, career and engagement like a schedule. When the sister falls for the painter, Margit steps in to stop it, and of course something else is going on. This is one of the William Powell and Myrna Loy pairings, and their familiar ease works here too: the talk is fast, dry and almost never pauses for breath. Richard Thorpe directed. The trailer sequence at the end is one of the most crowded and disorderly finales in thirties ensemble comedy. The plot is predictable, but surprise was never the point. Who it is for: viewers who love thirties screwball and the Powell and Loy partnership. Who it is not for: anyone wanting an original story, since the film rests entirely on its stars.
