What The Prisoner of Zenda Is About
The heir to the throne of Ruritania is marked for assassination before his coronation, so an Englishman who happens to be his double agrees to stand in for the ceremony. When the real king is then kidnapped, the substitute has to help find him while trying not to fall for the king's intended bride, Princess Flavia. This MGM version of Anthony Hope's novel is almost a copy of the celebrated 1937 film: the script is nearly word for word the same, and Richard Thorpe ran a moviola on set so that the camera angles could be matched too. What it adds is Technicolor and James Mason as Rupert of Hentzau.
