What Beverly of Graustark Is About
When the prince of Graustark is injured skiing and cannot travel, his cousin Beverly Calhoun decides to take his place, going to the country dressed as a man to attend the ceremony that will give him the throne. No one at the court notices, but Dantan, assigned as Beverly’s bodyguard, is watching her every move, and she is taken with him in turn. Every day the disguise holds ties a new knot both at the court and between the two of them. In Sidney Franklin’s seventy minute American silent film, Marion Davies plays Beverly and Antonio Moreno plays Dantan, with Creighton Hale and Roy D’Arcy in the cast. It was completed in 1926 and follows the pattern of romantic comedies set in an imaginary European kingdom.
