Charley's Aunt

The year is 1890 and the place is Oxford. Two students are at the university. The two of them have a plan. The plan requires an aunt. The aunt they are waiting for is to come from Brazil. No aunt arrives. They turn to another friend from the same college. The friend is something of a rascal. They press him into it. He puts on the aunt’s clothes. He says he has come from Brazil. The story is built on that disguise, and the comedy comes out of what people take for true. It is a period farce. Jack Benny, Kay Francis, Anne Baxter and Edmund Gwenn appear in the eighty minute film. Laird Cregar is in the cast as well, an American production Archie Mayo finished in 1941.
