Orchestra Wives

Connie Ward steps into another world when Gene Morrison’s band rolls into town. She falls for the band’s trumpeter, Bill Abbot, and marries him. After the wedding she joins the tour and learns what being an orchestra wife means. The gossip and the sniping of the other band wives close around her at once. The film shows what goes on behind the stage not as a bright life but as a narrow circle. The place that touring life leaves for women is the real subject. It comes from American musical cinema of 1942. George Montgomery and Ann Rutherford take the leads, with Glenn Miller also in the cast. Archie Mayo’s ninety eight minute American film was completed in 1942.
