What Under Eighteen Is About
Margie Evans, a young working woman in the years of the Depression, has decided there are two kinds of opportunity for someone from a poor neighbourhood: the ones you make and the ones you take. She is determined to pull her family out of the money trouble it has fallen into, and by the time she turns up at a wealthy man’s penthouse pool party she is ready for both. The film offers no moral lesson; it shows how being without money narrows a person’s choices. The account belongs to the pre code period of American cinema in the early thirties and carries that era’s plain speaking. Marian Marsh and Anita Page appear in Archie Mayo’s eighty minute American film, completed in 1932.
