Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'

Frieza is revived with the Dragon Balls and, for the first time, actually trains. The series' greatest villain stops relying purely on what he was born with. The important part is behind the scenes: Akira Toriyama wrote the screenplay himself and designed the characters, the first time the series' creator wrote a film script, having been less involved on Battle of Gods. Producer Norihiro Hayashida said Toriyama got the idea at a metal concert, while the band played a song about the character. The production used CGI and leaned on fight sequences, with the team saying they wanted a fast pace for American audiences. It grossed roughly 61.7 million dollars worldwide, taking 3.74 billion yen or 31.1 million in Japan and finishing as the sixth highest-grossing Japanese film of 2015. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 83 percent. Critics praised the animation and the fighting while noting the plot loses momentum once the main battle starts and that Frieza does not feel threatening enough against the heroes' new power levels. Who it is for: people who follow the series and missed Frieza. Who it is not for: newcomers. The film explains nothing, and without the logic of power levels it is just noise.
