What Laterna, Poverty and Carnation Is About
Pavlaras and Petrakis have long since spent the money Kaiti’s father gave them two years earlier, and they are still going round the streets of Athens with their barrel organ. Pavlaras falls ill and the doctor tells him to rest, but resting costs money too. Petrakis collects what he can from friends, it is not enough, and in the end he has to sell the barrel organ in secret without telling his friend. Alekos Sakellarios wrote and directed the eighty six minute Greek film as a continuation of the hit he had made two years earlier, and it is regarded as the first sequel in Greek cinema. Mimis Fotopoulos, Vasilis Avlonitis and Jenny Karezi star, and it opened in April 1957 to great commercial success.
