A Matter of Earnestness

The minister Andreas Mavrogialouros comes to Platania, a village in his own electoral district, to open a maternity hospital. After an accident he finds out how unhappy his voters are with him and what the men closest to him have been running. He is honest but not sharp; in the end he steps down from the government and decides to put his life in order starting with his own house. Alekos Sakellarios directed, Finos Film produced and Lambros Konstantaras leads. The source is a play by Sakellarios and Christos Giannakopoulos called Irregular Landing, a text that failed on stage and lasted on screen. It opened on 6 December 1965 and sold 325,683 tickets. It is one of the few Greek films to take electoral custom as its direct subject, and it still turns up on television around elections.
