What Woe to the Young Is About
Two wealthy old friends, Andreas and Agisilaos, are both in love with young Rita. Andreas believes it is youth and not money that turns the world, so he sells his soul to the devil, becomes young again and sets about courting her. He then understands that youth by itself is not enough, and in the end he provides her with a dowry so that she can marry the man she loves. Alekos Sakellarios’s eighty seven minute Greek film is a variation on the Faust story, adapted from the play he wrote with Christos Giannakopoulos, with music by Manos Hadjidakis. It opened on 30 October 1961, and Dimitris Horn won best actor at the Thessaloniki Film Festival that year.
