What The New Testament Is About
The prosperous doctor Jean Marcelin rewrites his will after learning that his wife has been unfaithful, and sets out in the document itself why he has changed the arrangement. He puts the paper in his jacket pocket and leaves the house, but forgets the jacket at his tailor’s while trying on a new suit; once the document surfaces ahead of time, husbands, wives, lovers and gigolos all start to sweat at once. Sacha Guitry’s ninety six minute French film was adapted from his own play of 1934 and opened on 14 February 1936. Guitry plays the doctor himself, with Jacqueline Delubac, Betty Daussmond and Pauline Carton in the cast. Almost all of them had performed the same text on stage in 1934.
