What The Virtuous Scoundrel Is About
Albert and Alain Menard-Lacoste are twin brothers. Albert has made a success of his life: he is rich and respectable, the people around him are afraid of him, he makes his family miserable and is unhappy himself without admitting it. Alain has travelled a great deal and lives very modestly. When the two of them meet, Alain suddenly dies of a heart attack, and Albert takes his brother’s clothes and his identity and tries to live, backwards, the adventurous life Alain had in America. Sacha Guitry wrote and directed, and Michel Simon plays both brothers. Louis de Funes has a substantial supporting part, and Claude Gensac appears on screen for the first time.
