The Unfaithfuls

The film moves among the well off of postwar Italy. A rich businessman has fallen for a young model. He wants to marry her but he is married already. To divorce he needs to put his wife in the wrong. He tries to have her caught with a lover. His wife, though, is faithful to him. There is another matter in this circle. A young woman working in one of the houses took her own life. Everyone had some part in that death. These respectable looking people know what they did. A cunning blackmailer learns of it. The man knows they will pay to keep it quiet. Rather than give each other away, they choose to hand over money. The blackmail brings thefts along behind it. Gina Lollobrigida and May Britt appear in the ninety five minute film, an Italian and French co-production Steno and Mario Monicelli finished in 1953.
