What A Ripple in the Pond Is About
Manolis, a tight-fisted man of fixed habits married to Veta for ten years, goes out one night with his business partner Giorgos to a nightclub and ends up paying an astonishing bill over two Greek American women they meet there. The next day one of the guests coming to lunch turns out to be one of those women: his wife’s cousin. The harder Manolis works to keep the lie small, the larger it grows, and the whole household is drawn in. The humour comes from the gap between the man’s stinginess and what he spent in one night. Vasilis Logothetidis appears in Alekos Sakellarios’s hundred and two minute Greek comedy; it was completed in 1952.
