A Young Miss... Aged 39

Telemachos Karantaris is a well-off man. He has lost his heart to a woman much younger than himself. She is called Fofo. But Telemachos cannot marry. His sister has to be married off first. That is a matter of custom. The sister is thirty nine years old. A friend shows him a way. They will place a marriage advertisement in the newspaper. The woman’s real age will not be given in it. Her dowry will be put forward instead. Two suitors turn up after the advertisement. One is a retired man. The other is a property owner who has lived abroad. The film was adapted from a stage play of the same name by Sakellarios and Giannakopoulos. The shooting was done entirely in Cairo. Vasilis Logothetidis and Ilia Livykou take the leads in Alekos Sakellarios’s Greek comedy of 1954.
