Digimon Adventure tri. Part 3: Confession

The third part of Digimon Adventure tri. is where the series' tone darkens for good. After Meicoomon's abrupt transformation and the killing of one of their friends, Agumon and the other Digimon are isolated in Koushiro's office against the risk of infection. Then signs appear in Patamon as well. The film puts the question of whether the children's partners can still be trusted at its centre, and treats it as practical rather than sentimental: being attached to someone also means accepting that they might become dangerous. The groundwork works directly for anyone who watched the original series, since the idea of childhood friendships being tested by growing up is the line running through the whole run. Action stays in second place. Who it's for: followers of Digimon and viewers who like continuation stories. Who it's not for: anyone new to the series; the film introduces neither its characters nor their history.
