Persona3 THE MOVIE #3 Falling Down

The third instalment of the four-film adaptation of the game Persona 3 moves into autumn and is the darkest stretch of the run. Makoto and the group around him keep fighting the creatures called Shadows that appear during the interval known as the Dark Hour. What changes here is the cost: the losses are no longer abstract but come from inside the group, and the characters have to ask again why they are fighting at all. The adaptation keeps the game's structure of school life bound to dungeon sequences while pushing the emotional weight forward. Death and the search for meaning, present in the series from the start, surface here at their plainest. The design and music stay faithful to the game's identity. Who it's for: people who know the Persona series and follow game adaptations. Who it's not for: anyone hoping to start here; the film assumes the previous two.
