Doraemon: Nobita's Great Adventure in the South Seas

Nobita talks his friends into a treasure hunt. With Doraemon's gadgets they set out for the South Seas, but an incident carries them to the seventeenth century, into waters where pirates roam. There they find a wreck, a treasure map and real pirates. At the same time a scientist is trying to alter time and history is about to break. Tsutomu Shibayama's film runs in the familiar template of the Doraemon features: time travel, getting lost, and a rescue the friends attempt together. The sea sequences and the pirate designs are among the visually more ambitious parts of the series. The narrative uses the treasure hunt as a pretext; the real matter is Nobita keeping the promise he made his friends. Who it's for: Doraemon viewers, and anyone who likes children's adventure animation and pirate stories. Who it's not for: The structure is the same template repeated across the series. The narrative also stays simple for an adult viewer.
