Alejandro Ciangherotti What El Extra Is About
The man dreams of acting but never gets past work as an extra at the studio. He never leaves the place all the same: he gives everyone advice, involves himself in everyone's business, and in his head reshoots the scenes the way he would do them. In the end a chance comes. But taking it would mean giving somebody up. Miguel M. Delgado's Mexican comedy drops Cantinflas into the film world. The industry is mocked throughout: producers, auditions, the vanity of stars. Cantinflas's familiar way of talking is again the main material; the man says a great deal and nothing at all. The tone is light and the ending more affecting than expected.
