What El patrullero 777 Is About
One of Cantinflas's late films. Diógenes is a traffic policeman who tries to do the job by the rules, inside a force that runs on bribes and has lost touch with the people it polices. He settles everything his own way, by talking, and the talking is the point. It runs two hours and is built in episodes: one incident ends, the next begins. By this stage Cantinflas had become less a comedian than a figure delivering moral lessons, and the film arrives at praise for the honest policeman. A Mexican classic on its own terms.
